Dapper and Eclipse: Finally Working Together
I’ve just decided to give Eclipse 3.2 (Callisto) a trial run and I think it’s here to stay.
- The download is only 34Mb
- I simply untarred zxvf and copied to /opt – no permissions fuss, no sudo, nothing
- I launched using /opt/eclipse/eclipse – again, no sudo or gksudo required
- Ran Software Update – chose the New Features, checked the Callisto and off I went
- Everything installed smoothly, I relaunched my workspace and Bingo!
It is soooo nice to finally have a system where I didn’t need to pull 43 hacks and modify 32 files by hand to get Eclipse going. I’m happy today…
