Cable-modems don’t like to move
I’ve moved my home office to the basement over the week-end, and once everything was back up, and the local cable guy came to re-wire my internet and phone connections, I was left with a beautiful new working space… and no working internet connection.
Well, I could get to the net using a direct connection to the cable-modem, but any attemps to route the signal through my router wouldn’t work. After reading a bit, I figured out that I had to either do a reset on the cable-modem (unplug from electrical outlet for a while) or clone the MAC address. The latter seemed like the faster solution, and seconds later, I was back on.
I still have to figure out why I’m unable to use my usual VPN software to connect to work, but for now at least, I have a working setup and a very cool looking office – once more 🙂
