Performance Fix
Well, I think maybe my blog was becoming a little heavy on the backend, so I’ve decided to try an experiment and see if it’ll improve things – my feeling is it will.
I’ve changed the blog’s theme for the time beeing, which is nice, because I get to discover widgets, which is so much nicer than having to hack into html/php (although that’s fun too, for its own reasons).
I’ve also pretty much disabled any lookups I used to do. That means no more stats gathering using a WordPress plugin. No more RSS lookup for the latest changes on my wiki. And no more RSS lookup of the latest bookmarks I’ve put on my scuttle installation.
Unlike many of you, all these lookups are hitting the same server, as I’m hosting all my own social applications (drop the ‘social’ out of the sentence, and it makes sense…)
I’ll probably leave it as is for a few weeks and see what happens. Thanks for sticking around through the rough patch!
