Busy Summer

It’s been much busier than I would have wanted to, which has sorta prevented me from writing as much as I usually did in the last month or two. Things like end of quarter at work, kid illnesses, some web designs for friends and relatives and more projects that I expected. What’s happening lately?

Well, I’m putting the finishing touch to another Domino application to help keep track of my time everyday, since I need to report on my utilization (like a consultant, except we don’t use it for billing, since we’re really an internal resource).

I did try to find a new theme for this blog and customize it in the last week, but it’s just too much work. I reverted back to this one (Equix) which is just fine, really.

I’ll be flying to Atlanta in two weeks as I got invited to a workshop. I haven’t been in Atlanta since 1999, and I really want to visit the Coca-Cola Museum, since I missed it last time around. I’ll try to check out some of the Olympics legacy as well. Any other suggestions for an aspiring photographer?

I’ll be presenting in August to the IBM Americas Technical Sales Support community on the topic of blogs and wikis. I really want to deliver a different kind of pitch / presentation. I’ve been reading a lot lately on presentation styles, and I want my delivery to be memorable. I’ve now got to put my head around the story I want to tell, the props I’ll use and what I want my audience to remember. And figure out what I’d like to see in Raleigh, NC when I’m there. (I can’t help it, I like to visit wherever my travels take me).

I’ve acquired a new member to the household – my brother’s old PC, a 700Mhz IBM Aptiva. I was thinking I’d put it downstairs for my daughter to play with and was planning on using a customized linux distro on a Live CD to power it up. Well, that proved a time-waster, as most of the disk images I could find didn’t boot, or were too resource heavy. I always thought linux prided itself on running with less, but I guess 64Mb of RAM doesn’t fit that less definition. Anyway, the screen is going south and I don’t really feel like spending $$$ to buy a used one and some RAM. If I want another computer, I’ll buy a used iMac, that way I don’t have Windows nightmares of spyware and long troubleshooting sessions.

Finally, I’ve registered for a few Spanish classes as I want to brush up on my knowledge of the language, and since Americas Techline also covers Latin America, maybe help out some of my colleagues down South from time to time! Una cervesa, por favor!

So yeah, it’s been busy. My agenda is now full, and I’m not taking any new work until I can make a serious dent into all this workload. I guess improving my golf game will have to wait until 2007!
