Tracking Projects the Easy Way

I’ve been struggling to find an easy way to manage my projects ie. the websites I develop here and there for friends and relatives. Initially, I was looking for something I could host on arseneault.ca, but after trying dotProject, and a bunch of other lesser open source offerings, I was forced to the conclusion that like many areas in technology, you can only have two of the three dimensions at once: the open source apps I could find were Free and could be Downloaded, but looked Ugly. And I could find very Attractive looking apps to Download, but they weren’t Free. In the end, I settled for Free and Attractive (I’m a sucker for aesthetics), and I chose SideJobTrack. It’s fast and in keeping with the my well known motto: It just works.

While it has taken me a few days to enter all my data into dotProject, it took me at most 2 hours to get SideJobTrack to the point I wanted it. And the interface is clean, web 2’0’ish and very functional. It’s all I need, given this is really a sideline for me, and I can’t afford to waste time managing, when I could be doing.

I used to hate having to go into dotProject, because it was so big. Now, I can’t wait to get something done, so I can go into SideJobTrack to update my files…!
