Gluecode becomes WebSphere Application Server Community Edition

Well, Gluecode (the opensource J2EE application server we acquired in May 2005) has now officially become family and will be called WebSphere Application Server Community Edition.

It is based on Apache Geronimo M5, and provides a stable release to build upon, which you can optionally have supported by IBM’s Technical Support. What have we added or changed from the M5 build?

  • Support for the IBM JDK 1.4
  • Migration aids from Apache Tomcat, Apache Geronimo and Gluecode Standard Edition
  • Eclipse plug-ins
  • Administrative console for centralized configuration and control (this is a technology preview)

Of course, this means yours truly will now have to try it out (I’m that way) into a VMware image and figure out what we’ll need to know to support our internal and external clients at Techline. But such is the life of a technical sales guy at IBM (or anywhere, for that matter, I suppose).
