Installing Eclipse is getting easier

I have been installing Eclipse on my Thinkpad (and other systems) ever since v2.0.

I remember that back then, it was a little more involving in trying to get the right version of this or that pre-req, so you could run a specific plugin. Even downloading the base Eclipse required that we find a mirror with the desired copy.Today, in a matter of 10 minutes, I was able to

  • Download Eclipse 3.1.2 using a torrent
  • Unzip to d:\\
  • Launch Eclipse and use the update manager to add the WebTools update URL
  • Check all pre-reqs and let Eclipse restart itself so I have my complete dev environment

Now that MS Visual Express is free, usability enhancement as simple as getting the product installed and configured may become competitive advantage in the market of free IDEs.
